The United States is preparing to resume nuclear weapons testing. At the same time, the country is considering an agreement to sell F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, President Donald Trump has stated.
Trump shared this information while speaking to reporters aboard the government aircraft Air Force One on Saturday.
Trump said that the United States will begin nuclear testing “like other countries.” However, he did not clarify whether this would include a full-scale nuclear warhead detonation.
Last month, Trump ordered action on this issue through the social media platform Truth Social. With this, the country is moving toward conducting nuclear tests again after a pause of 33 years.
Meanwhile, Trump confirmed that Saudi Arabia is interested in purchasing a large number of F-35 stealth fighter jets manufactured by Lockheed Martin. He is considering the matter.
Trump said that they want to purchase many aircraft. He added, “I am looking into it. They actually want to buy aircraft even more powerful than the F-35.”
However, the Pentagon has expressed concern over the matter. An intelligence report indicated that if an F-35 sale agreement is finalized with Saudi Arabia, there may be a risk of the technology reaching China.
It is expected that the issue will be discussed during a meeting next week at the White House with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Several economic and defense-related agreements may also be signed at the meeting.
