A ship carrying 60,875 metric tons of wheat from the United States has arrived at the outer anchorage of Mongla Port. This is the third consignment of imported wheat.
On Saturday (15 November), Imdad Islam, Senior Information Officer and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Food, stated in a signed press release that this wheat was imported under a cash purchase agreement in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the governments of the United States and Bangladesh.
The release also mentioned that Bangladesh has already started importing wheat from the United States on a government-to-government (G2G) basis. Under this agreement, a total of 440,000 metric tons of wheat will be imported, with the first consignment of 56,959 metric tons arriving on 25 October, and the second consignment of 60,802 metric tons arriving on 3 November.
According to the agreement, a total of 178,636 metric tons of wheat from the three consignments have arrived in the country.
Sampling and testing of the wheat on the ship has already begun. Necessary arrangements for rapid unloading of the wheat will be made after testing.
