Another Bus Torched in Savar Within Five Hours

A second bus was set on fire in Savar within just five hours, heightening concerns about a possible pattern of targeted arson attacks in the area. The latest incident occurred late on Saturday night at the Raj Fulbaria bus stand, located beside the Dhaka–Aricha Highway. The fire left the entire interior of the bus destroyed, with all passenger seats burned to ashes.

According to officials from the Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, the bus belonging to the ‘Itihas’ Transport Company had been parked for the night. After securing the vehicle and locking its doors, the driver and his assistant left for home. At around 3:00 am, they were alerted that the bus had caught fire. Both individuals rushed to the scene and initially attempted to extinguish the flames using buckets of water, but the fire had already intensified.

Upon receiving an emergency call, two firefighting units were dispatched to the location. With the assistance of one of the units, the fire was brought under control swiftly. Police also arrived shortly afterwards to secure the area and begin preliminary investigation.

Bus owner Md Enamul Haque expressed profound distress, stating, “I purchased this bus with a bank loan. It’s my only source of income for supporting my family. I have no idea how I will manage household expenses now or repay the loan. I intend to file a case with the police.” He estimated the damage at approximately 500,000 taka, covering destroyed seats and interior fittings.

Senior Station Officer Md Jahangir Alam confirmed that all seating inside the bus had been completely burned. Meanwhile, Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saleh Ahmed reported that investigators have yet to determine who set the fire or how the incident occurred.

This attack took place only hours after a similar fire incident at 10:30 pm on Saturday, when a bus transporting workers was torched at the U-loop area of the Dhaka–Aricha Highway in Ulail. Authorities are examining whether the two events are linked.
