Probable Date for Eid-ul-Fitr in 2026

The Astronomical Society of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the probable date for celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr in 2026. According to their calculation, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be observed on 20 March (Friday).

Middle East–based news outlet Gulf News, citing Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, reported that the crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan 1447 Hijri may be visible on 17 February (Tuesday). However, it may be difficult to sight the moon that evening. Therefore, the possible beginning of Ramadan has been estimated as 19 February (Thursday), which may continue for 30 days.

Arab astronomers believe that if the month of fasting completes 30 days, residents of the UAE may get a four-day holiday—from 19 March (Thursday) to 22 March (Sunday). Regular office activities would resume on 23 March (Monday).

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the major religious festivals in the Islamic calendar. The day begins with the Eid prayer, followed by spending time with family and relatives, giving charity, and participating in various social activities.

According to astronomical predictions, the first day of Shawwal—Eid-ul-Fitr—may fall on Friday, 20 March 2026. However, the UAE Moon Sighting Committee will issue the final confirmation closer to the date based on actual moon sighting.
