‘Uncivilised nations destroy homes’ — soldier’s remark goes viral

On Monday, the day the verdict was delivered against Sheikh Hasina in a case involving crimes against humanity, a group of demonstrators gathered at Dhanmondi 32. When they attempted to demolish the house of Sheikh Mujib located in the Dhanmondi-32 area, members of the law enforcement agencies intervened.

At that moment, a soldier was seen speaking with the demonstrators. A video clip of the soldier’s conversation has already circulated on Facebook.

In the video, the soldier is heard telling the demonstrators that civilised nations act through justice. Uncivilised nations destroy houses and set fires on the streets.

One of the demonstrators then says that the whole country knows the Awami League is treasonous. Why should we allow their existence here?

In response, the soldier says they are people of our own country. Their presence exists across the country. How many places will you try to wipe out?

Another demonstrator says that this is their qibla. We want to demolish their qibla.

The soldier replies that even if these things are destroyed, they will not vanish from people’s minds. If demolished here, they will build again.

Another demonstrator says, then will the Awami League return? At this, the soldier says that this is an illogical question.
