What Indian Prime Minister Modi Stated in His Facebook Status

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has posted a status on the social media platform Facebook, in which he expressed profound grief. He shared the status on Monday (17 November) from his verified Facebook page.

In the status, Narendra Modi wrote that they are deeply saddened by the accident involving Indian nationals in Medina. He conveyed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He added that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are providing all possible assistance. Indian officials are also maintaining close communication with the Saudi authorities.

Earlier, according to a report by the media, 42 Umrah pilgrims were killed in a collision between a bus and a tanker lorry in the Mufrahath area between Medina and Badr in Saudi Arabia. Among the deceased were 20 women and 11 children. Only one of the injured survived. Immigration officials confirmed that all the deceased were residents of Hyderabad. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the accident.

The report further stated that the bus caught fire after the collision, which increased the number of casualties.

India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar, also expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He informed that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are working to support the families of the deceased and the injured. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.

According to the media, a 24-hour control room has been opened at the Jeddah Consulate in connection with the incident.

Indian consulate officials and community volunteers are present at the hospital and the accident site, coordinating with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, local authorities, and relevant Umrah operators.
