Bangladesh Rewrite Test History with Triple Century Partnerships!

Bangladesh produced a historic batting display in the Mirpur Test against Ireland, stitching together three consecutive century partnerships in the first innings and etching their name into Test cricket’s elite record books. What began as a shaky morning quickly transformed into a monumental fightback, leaving the Irish bowlers frustrated and Bangladesh firmly in control.

Ireland made an excellent start on the opening day, reducing Bangladesh to 95 for 3 before the first session had ended. At that stage, the visitors looked poised to dominate. However, what followed was one of Bangladesh’s finest demonstrations of resilience and partnership-building in the longest format.

Three Century Stands — A Rare Sight in Test History

Bangladesh went on to register three hundred-run partnerships for the fourth, fifth and sixth wickets, becoming only the third team in Test history to achieve this unique feat. The only other sides to have done so were:

Team Opponent Year Wickets Century Stands
India West Indies 1979 4th–6th 3
Pakistan Sri Lanka 2023 4th–6th 3
Bangladesh Ireland 2025 4th–6th 3

This was also the third time in Bangladesh’s Test history that they produced three century partnerships in a single innings—the previous instances came in 2013, against Sri Lanka and later that same year against New Zealand.

How the Comeback Unfolded

After losing three early wickets, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim began the rebuilding process with remarkable composure. The pair added 107 runs for the fourth wicket before Mominul departed for a well-crafted 63.

Mushfiqur then found support in Liton Das, and together they added 108 runs for the fifth wicket. Mushfiqur completed yet another Test century, continuing his reputation as Bangladesh’s crisis man, before being dismissed shortly after reaching the landmark.

Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz carried the momentum further, ensuring that Ireland’s suffering did not end there. Their partnership of 123 runs for the sixth wicket not only extended Bangladesh’s dominance but pushed the team into record territory.

For the Irish bowlers, the long wait for breakthroughs turned into a test of patience and endurance. After taking three wickets in quick succession early on, the visitors managed only three more throughout the remainder of the day—each separated by massive stands.

A Day to Remember for Bangladesh Cricket

This extraordinary batting effort highlighted Bangladesh’s depth, maturity and ability to recover from early setbacks—traits that have often eluded them in earlier years. Nearly twelve years after their previous instance of three century stands in an innings, the Tigers demonstrated that they have evolved significantly as a Test side.

What began as a fragile innings at 95 for 3 has now become a chapter in Bangladesh’s cricketing folklore—one marked by determination, grit and an unwavering commitment to partnerships.
