Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been arrested immediately upon his extradition to India. Officers from the National Investigation Agency took him into custody moments after his flight landed at Delhi Airport on Wednesday, 19 November.
A Delhi court has ordered that Anmol remain in NIA custody for 11 days while investigators question him in connection with multiple high-profile criminal cases.
Anmol was detained in the United States earlier this year, in April, following an international search. He is wanted in India in at least 31 cases, including several involving violent crime and organised criminal networks. One of the most serious accusations against him relates to the murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, for which he is alleged to have played a direct role. He has also been linked to the killing of prominent politician and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
Investigators further claim that Anmol was involved in the shooting incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in April last year — an attack that prompted a nationwide manhunt. Following the assault, Indian authorities intensified efforts to trace him across several countries.
According to police sources, Anmol fled India in 2022, travelling first to Nepal, then to Dubai and Kenya, before eventually settling in the United States. His movements reportedly helped him evade arrest for several years.
Anmol is the younger brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, one of India’s most notorious organised-crime figures and the head of the Bishnoi gang. The NIA believes that Anmol played a significant role in managing the gang’s international network, particularly during his time abroad.
Further investigations are ongoing, and additional charges may be brought against him as questioning continues.
