41 killed and 9 missing in Vietnam floods

Severe flooding that hit Vietnam’s central region last week has left at least 41 people dead and 9 still missing, according to the Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention Department.

Local media outlet VN Express reported that more than 52,000 homes were submerged by the floods. Thousands of hectares of farmland were damaged, while large numbers of livestock and poultry were swept away or killed.

Dak Lak province was the worst affected, where 16 deaths have been recorded. Another 14 people died in Khanh Hoa province. The extreme weather left more than one million customers without electricity.

Power has since been restored to around 600,000 households.

More than 140 landslides occurred on provincial roads. Thousands of workers and police personnel have been deployed to support rescue and relief operations.
