Gold Ornaments and Cash Looted from Wedding House in Mirsarai

Gold ornaments and cash have reportedly been looted from guests attending a wedding ceremony at a house in Mirsarai, Chattogram. The incident occurred at around 3am yesterday, Friday, at the residence of expatriate Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in Haji-Shorai village of Ward No. 1 in Durgapur Union.

According to local residents, a wedding event was arranged yesterday afternoon at Abdul Mannan’s home for his daughter’s marriage. The groom’s party left with the bride around 7pm. Although most guests departed in the evening, a few stayed overnight. Taking advantage of this, a group of robbers broke the lock of the main door of the two-storey house at around 3am and entered inside. They tied up the family members and guests before looting the gold ornaments and cash they had with them.

Md. Nurul Anwar, local UP member and brother of Abdul Mannan’s wife Rozina Akter, told the media, “The robbers took at least 15 bhori of gold ornaments and one lakh taka in cash. The family members have been in great fear since the incident. Even though the groom’s family arranged the post‑wedding feast today, none from the bride’s side is able to attend.”

When asked, Abdul Halim, the Officer-in-Charge of Jorarganj Police Station, told the media, “Our patrol team and local village guards were active in the area where the robbery occurred. We responded quickly after receiving the information, but the robbers fled through the paddy fields behind the house.” He added, “This is a highway‑centric robbery gang. They break into neighbouring houses, commit robbery, and escape swiftly. We are working to arrest the gang.”
