The government has approved the purchase of 50,000 tons of non-basmati boiled rice from Singapore, with a total expenditure of 21.643 crore taka. The rice will be procured through an international open tender.
On Monday (24 November), the proposal was approved during a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Council Committee, held at the Cabinet Division conference room, chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salahuddin Ahmed.
According to sources at the meeting, following the proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government has approved the procurement of 50,000 tons of non-basmati boiled rice under Package-06 for the 2025-26 fiscal year through an international open tender.
The purchase will be made from S Agrocorp International Private Limited in Singapore at a cost of 21.643 crore taka.
Earlier, on 18 November, the Government Procurement Advisory Council Committee had also approved a similar proposal. Additionally, in a meeting on 22 October, the committee approved the purchase of 100,000 tons of rice from the United Arab Emirates and Myanmar on both international open tender and G2G (government-to-government) basis, including 50,000 tons of non-basmati boiled rice and 50,000 tons of parboiled rice, with a total expenditure of 44.623 crore taka.
