A human chain and protest were held in Barishal city demanding the construction of the Barishal-Bhola bridge over the Tetulia and Kalabadar rivers.
On Monday, students residing in Barishal and residents from Bhola took part in the demonstration.
At the human chain in front of Ashini Kumar Hall, speakers included Maksudur Rahman from the Accounting Department, Kamrul Islam Habib from the Economics Department, Ayesha Siddika from the Mathematics Department of Barishal Government Brojomohun (BM) College, and Mizanur Rahman representing civil society.
The speakers stated that they have been campaigning for the construction of the Barishal-Bhola bridge for a long time. Despite multiple assurances from the government, the project has not yet been implemented. Due to the absence of the bridge, residents of Bhola are unable to access timely medical facilities in Barishal. The lack of the bridge is also hindering economic development in the southern region.
They warned that if the bridge is not constructed soon, they will intensify their movement.
