The authorities of Honeywell Garments Limited have declared the factory in the Konabari Ambag area of Gazipur Metropolitan closed indefinitely. On Tuesday morning, workers began protesting after seeing the closure notice posted on the main gate of the factory. The protest was ongoing at the time of writing (1:30 pm).
The notice, signed by the Assistant General Manager (Admin and Finance) of Honeywell Garments Limited, stated that on Monday the workers raised several unreasonable demands and halted production, creating severe disorder and an unstable situation. As a result, scheduled export activities were disrupted, causing significant financial losses. Despite repeated calls to return to work, the workers did not comply. Their actions were described as an illegal strike.
The notice further stated that, under Section 13(1) of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, the factory has been declared closed indefinitely. Once the situation becomes normal, the reopening date will be announced through a notice.
Meanwhile, workers became agitated after seeing the notice at the factory gate this morning. They blocked the branch road from Mitali Club to the Konabari New Market area. During this time, all types of vehicles were turned back, and several arguments occurred between workers and drivers.
Inspector Md Morshed Zaman of Gazipur Industrial Police–2, Konabari Zone, said that efforts were underway to resolve the matter through discussions with both workers and the factory authorities.
