Chattogram Royals Stun with Naeem Sheikh Signing Over One Crore

The 12th Bangladesh Premier League auction began with a major shock as the first player to go under the hammer, Naeem Sheikh, quickly became the talk of the auction hall. Listed under the ‘A’ category with a base price of 5 million Taka, the left-handed opener sent shockwaves through franchises as the bidding escalated beyond the one-crore mark.

Four franchises—Sylhet Titans, Rangpur Riders, Chattogram Royals, and Noakhali Express—vied for the 26-year-old batter. The intense battle concluded with Chattogram Royals securing Naeem for 11 million Taka, marking a bold statement of intent ahead of the tournament. Known for his domestic consistency, Naeem topped the scoring charts in the previous BPL season, proving that he can deliver under pressure even if national team form has been elusive.

This signing provides the Royals with multiple advantages. Naeem’s ability to open the innings aggressively, combined with his experience in domestic circuits, offers the team both stability and momentum. Moreover, his inclusion creates a dynamic top order alongside other key performers.

Shortly after, Bangladesh T20 captain Liton Das went under the hammer. Following a fiery half-century against Ireland, Liton was expected to spark a bidding war. Surprisingly, Rangpur Riders secured him for 7 million Taka, well below the anticipated contest, ensuring the team adds both experience and explosive batting at the top.

These early acquisitions highlight how franchises are meticulously planning their squads. Securing high-performing local talent such as Naeem and Liton signals a focus on building balanced teams capable of combining youth, leadership, and experience. The auction’s opening day has already set a thrilling tone, hinting at an exciting 12th edition of the BPL.
