Over 2 Million Taxpayers File E-Returns in Bangladesh This Year

More than 2 million taxpayers in Bangladesh have filed their e-returns so far this year, following the launch of the online filing system by Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, the Economic Adviser, on August 4. The system, hosted on the official website (www.etaxnbr.gov.bd), has seen a strong response from taxpayers across the country.

Mandatory Online Filing for Most Taxpayers

In a significant move, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has made online income tax return filing mandatory for all individual taxpayers, excluding certain categories such as senior citizens above 65 years of age, people with disabilities, and expatriates. However, those exempted still have the option to file online if they wish to do so.

Easy Access to E-Return System for Foreign Nationals and Representatives

NBR has also ensured that expatriate Bangladeshis can easily register for the e-return system by sending their details (passport number, national ID, etc.) to a designated email address. This allows them to file returns remotely. Additionally, authorized representatives such as tax lawyers and accountants have been trained to assist taxpayers in submitting their e-returns.

Support and Training for a Smooth Filing Experience

NBR has set up a dedicated call center (09643 717171) to assist with any e-return issues, and taxpayers can also visit local help desks or use the online platform for support. This year, NBR has provided training for both taxpayers and their authorized representatives, ensuring a smooth filing experience.

Deadline for E-Filing: December 31, 2025

Taxpayers are urged to file their 2025-2026 tax returns using the e-return system by December 31, 2025, to ensure compliance and avoid any penalties. The NBR has made significant efforts to simplify the process, making it more accessible and user-friendly.
