Fire in Chawkbazar Brought Under Control After Ninety Minutes

A fire that broke out in two buildings in the capital’s Chawkbazar area was brought under control after nearly an hour and a half.

The Fire Service managed to contain the blaze at 6 pm on Monday (1 December). The information was confirmed by Anwarul Islam, an official from the media cell of the Fire Service headquarters.

He stated that a total of seven units from the Lalbagh, Palashi and Siddikbazar Fire Stations were involved in the operation. Their prompt response helped prevent major damage.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses have not yet been determined. A Fire Service investigation team has already begun looking into the incident.

He further said that the fire had engulfed two buildings in Chawkbazar. The first building is three storeys high, with a lentil storage and milling facility on the ground floor, staff accommodation on the second floor, and a luggage fittings workshop on the third floor. The second building has two storeys, with a workshop on the ground floor and offices above.

Earlier, the Fire Service received the alert at 4:42 pm. Four units initially rushed to the spot, joined later by three additional teams.

On the same day at 3:40 pm, a separate fire broke out at a six-storey residential building in Jahuri Mohalla, Mohammadpur. Two units brought that fire under control at 4:25 pm.
