India plans to install new barbed-wire fencing along Bangladesh border

India has announced a plan to install a new type of barbed-wire fence along its border with Bangladesh. The information was disclosed on Sunday (30 November) by Alok Kumar Chakraborty, Inspector General of the BSF Tripura Frontier.

Speaking to PTI, Alok Kumar said the India–Bangladesh border spans 4,096 kilometres, of which 856 kilometres fall along the state of Tripura. Much of the existing barbed-wire fencing has exceeded its operational lifespan.

He stated that heavy rainfall has damaged sections of the international border fencing in Tripura, prompting plans for reconstruction. A proposal for a redesigned fencing structure is currently under consideration by the central government.

Alok Kumar further claimed that the situation along the India–Bangladesh border remains ‘normal’. He added that relations between the Indian Border Security Force and the Border Guard Bangladesh are highly cordial and cooperative.
