In the border areas of Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj, two Bangladeshis have reportedly been beaten to death by India’s border security force, the BSF. The incident occurred on Sunday (30 November) at around 2:00 am near international pillars 76 and 77. However, the BGB authorities have stated that they are not aware of the matter.
The deceased have been identified as Ibrahim Rinku (28), son of the late Mojibur Rahman from Gaipara village, Durlovpur Union, Shibganj, and Momin Mia (29), son of Aminul Islam from Shyampur village, Paka Union.
It is reported that at around 2:00 am on Sunday, a group of four to five people went to the border near Wahedpur BOP to bring cattle. During this time, members of the Nimtita BSF camp in India apprehended Momin and Rinku, while the others managed to escape. Later, it was learned through various sources that the two detainees were brutally beaten to death and thrown into the Padma River by members of the Nimtita 71 BSF camp.
Regarding the incident, Rafik Uddin, ward member of Ward No. 7, Paka Union, Shibganj, said that he heard in the local market yesterday that two people had gone missing while bringing cattle into India. He further learned from locals that they had been killed. However, due to fear, no family member has dared to file a complaint.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, commander of the 53 BGB Battalion, stated that he had heard about the incident through various sources. Although contact was made with the BSF, they denied the allegations. Furthermore, no family has lodged any complaint with the BGB.
