Four People Stabbed and Attacked with Sharp Weapons in Separate Incidents

Four individuals were stabbed or attacked with sharp weapons in separate incidents across Bogura on Monday night, raising serious concerns about the security situation in the district. According to hospital and local sources, the attacks occurred within a span of just over an hour, suggesting a worrying rise in violent crime.

The first incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. near Azad Pump in the Sutrapur area of Bogura town. Witnesses reported that a group of unidentified assailants attacked 48-year-old Babu Hossain and left him bleeding by the roadside before fleeing the scene. Babu, a resident of Shahpara and the son of the late Abu Hasanath, suffered a deep stab wound near his thigh, resulting in significant blood loss.

A passer-by named Nibir later described the scene, saying, “He was lying beside the road covered in blood. People were scared and no one dared to approach him. Eventually, my friends and I took the risk and brought him to the hospital.” Babu was promptly admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZRMC) Hospital, where doctors began treating him. He later informed police that the attackers not only stabbed him but also snatched his mobile phone before fleeing.

The second incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the Hakir Mor area of Sultanganjpara. In this case, 36-year-old Raihan Ali was stabbed by a group of miscreants who immediately escaped after the attack. Local residents rushed him to SZRMC Hospital for urgent treatment. Raihan, the son of Raja Mia of Sultanganjpara, is believed to have been attacked due to an ongoing dispute, according to early reports. Police sources suggest that the incident may be linked to a previous altercation.

Earlier in the night, at approximately 10 p.m., another violent attack took place in the Joara Talpukur area near Ranirhat in Shahjahanpur upazila. Two young men—22-year-old Sabbir Hossain and 22-year-old Sizan—were assaulted with sharp weapons by unidentified attackers. Both suffered multiple injuries before passers-by rescued them and transported them to the hospital for urgent medical care.

Sabbir is the son of Mithu from Boyradighi area, while Sizan is the son of Salek Mondal of Ranirhat. Initial findings indicate that the attack was carried out due to pre-existing hostility between the victims and the attackers. Locals claim that tensions had been building for several days prior to the incident.

All four victims are currently undergoing treatment at SZRMC Hospital. Doctors have stated that although the injuries are serious, all the victims are currently out of immediate danger.

The series of attacks occurring within such a short timeframe has alarmed residents of Bogura. Many expressed fear that criminal groups or rival factions may be becoming increasingly active, particularly after dark. Residents have reported feeling unsafe walking at night, especially in areas without adequate lighting or police patrols.

Police have launched separate investigations into each incident. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas, taking witness statements and attempting to identify those involved. Early indications suggest that the attacks may not be directly linked, but rather part of a broader rise in violent crime rooted in personal disputes, territorial conflicts and opportunistic assaults.

Authorities have urged locals to remain cautious and report suspicious activities immediately. Meanwhile, community leaders are calling for enhanced police patrols and stronger law enforcement presence in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
