Two Youth Shakti Leaders Who Threatened Journalists Temporarily Relieved

Two leaders of National Youth Shakti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party, have been temporarily relieved of their duties after threatening to lock journalists inside a room in Rajshahi. The decision was announced in a press release issued late last night.

According to the statement, Mehedi Hasan, Chief Organiser of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Unit, and Joint Member Secretary Swaib Ahmed have been temporarily exempted from all responsibilities on charges of serious organisational misconduct.

They have been instructed to explain within two working days, both in writing and in person, why they should not be permanently expelled. The directive was issued by the organisation’s Convener Advocate Tarikul Islam and Member Secretary Dr Jahedul Islam.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the two leaders threatened to lock journalists inside a room during a press conference organised by the National Citizen Party’s district committee. As the new committee held the press conference, a separate group began protesting outside. At one stage, Mehedi and Swaib arrived and issued the threat.

Journalists protested immediately, leading to a tense situation. Swaib and his companions attempted to flee, but journalists followed them, resulting in several minutes of confrontation in the motel premises. Swaib later apologised to a journalist.
