Ten Houses Destroyed in Nawabganj Fire, Elderly Man Dies

A devastating fire in Nawabganj of Dinajpur has razed ten houses and claimed the life of an elderly man named Roich Uddin (72). The incident occurred around 7 pm on Tuesday at Maharajpur Cluster Village in Mahmudpur Union. Roich Uddin, son of the late Yusuf Teli, was paralysed and unable to move independently.

Abu Musa, Station Officer of Nawabganj Fire Service, said they responded quickly and brought the blaze under control, but by then ten houses were already burnt down. The elderly man died after being unable to escape the flames. He added that seven cattle also died in the fire. Initial assessment suggests the blaze originated from a short circuit, causing an estimated loss of 1.5 million taka.

UNO Zillur Rahman stated that the fire caused extensive damage to property and livestock, along with one death. A list of affected families is being prepared, and arrangements for relief and rehabilitation will be made soon.

Nawabganj Police Station OC Abdul Matin said the deceased could not escape due to paralysis. As there was no complaint from the family, the body was handed over to them. He added that a short circuit is the likely cause, though further investigation is ongoing.
