Kurigram Grapples with Freezing Winter

Life in Kurigram has come to a standstill due to the cold and fog. The northern chilly winds have intensified the cold.

For the past three days, temperatures have fluctuated between 12–13 degrees Celsius. From midnight until morning, the entire district remains enveloped in fog.

Labourers, agricultural workers, and low-income people are struggling with the severe cold.

Subal Chandra, Officer-in-Charge of the Rajarhat Meteorological Observation Centre in Kurigram, reported that at 6 am on Wednesday (3 December), the district recorded a minimum temperature of 12.3 degrees Celsius.

Millions of people in the riverine char areas, who are extremely poor or low-income, are experiencing extra hardship. Hospitals are also seeing a rise in cold-related patients due to weather changes.

According to the District Relief and Disaster Rehabilitation Officer, a total of 5.4 million taka has been allocated to distribute winter clothing across 9 upazilas.
