The BNP has put an end to ongoing speculation by naming SM Jahangir Hossain as the party’s nominee for Dhaka-18, leaving newcomer Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho out of the final lineup. The announcement was made on Thursday during a press briefing at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office, led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Snigdho, who joined the BNP on 4 November, had been widely discussed as a strong contender for the Dhaka-18 seat. His visible involvement in party activities and increasing presence in local political programmes had fuelled expectations about his potential nomination. The fact that Dhaka-18 had remained vacant in BNP’s initial list further intensified speculation.
However, Snigdho’s name was absent from the latest list of 36 candidates released by the party. With this update, the BNP has now announced candidates for 273 out of 300 constituencies, following the initial declaration of 237 names on 3 November.
Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho is the former Chief Executive Officer of the July Shaheed Memorial Foundation and the twin brother of July uprising martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho.
