Last month, Bangladesh defeated Ireland in a two-match home Test series. In this series, Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam took a total of 13 wickets. For his outstanding performance, he has been nominated as the ICC Player of the Month for November.
According to the ICC website, “The left-arm spinner has maintained his reputation as a reliable match-winner on home soil.” In the series against Ireland, Taijul outperformed Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker, achieving 250 wickets in 57 Tests.
Joining Taijul on the nomination list are South Africa’s Simon Harmer and Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz. Harmer took 17 wickets in a two-match Test series in India, while Nawaz took 10 wickets in Pakistan’s home tri-nation T20 series.
In women’s cricket, the nominees for November’s best player are India’s Shafali Verma, Thailand’s Thipacha Puthawang, and UAE’s Ayesha Ooza. Shafali scored 87 runs in India’s World Cup final victory, Thipacha took a joint highest 15 wickets in the Emerging Nations Trophy, and Ayesha Ooza scored 187 runs across seven T20 matches.
Taijul is the third Bangladeshi player to receive this recognition, following Mehidy Hasan Miraz in April. Previously, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim had also won the award.
