A freedom fighter couple were found murdered with their throats slit at their home in Taraganj, Rangpur. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Rahimapur Chakla village under Kursha Union. Sub-Inspector Chaiyum Hossain of Taraganj Police Station confirmed the matter on Sunday morning.
According to police and local residents, Bir Muktijoddha and former headteacher of Rahimapur Bir Muktijoddha Government Primary School, Jogesh Chandra Roy, lived in the village with his wife, Subana Roy. Their elder son, Suben Chandra Roy, serves as an ASI in Joypurhat police, while their younger son, Rajesh Khanna Roy, is employed with the police in Dhaka.
Local resident Dipak Roy said he had been working at Jogesh Chandra Roy’s house for a long time. As usual, he went to the house on Sunday morning and called out at the gate. When he received no response, he, along with several villagers, entered the premises using a ladder and discovered the bodies of the couple with their throats slit.
Taraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Monabbar Hossain visited the scene in the morning.
