In a shocking incident from Chandina, Comilla, a 27-year-old housewife, Sabina Akter, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Abul Khayer. The gruesome killing has left the local community in disbelief and mourning. Police have arrested the husband on suspicion of involvement in the case.
The incident took place on Sunday night, 7 December, in Hossainpur village of Gallai Union, Chandina Upazila. Following the tragedy, the victim’s father filed a case with the local police station on Monday, 8 December, naming three individuals, including Abul Khayer, as accused.
Sabina Akter, a resident of Hossainpur, was married to Abul Khayer, also from the same village. She was the daughter of Maynal Hossain of Haraldar village in Mahichail Union, Chandina. The couple had two children together—a son and a daughter.
According to local sources, the couple had been married for around twelve years and had experienced ongoing marital conflicts. On the night of the incident, Abul Khayer allegedly assaulted Sabina violently. The situation escalated tragically when he reportedly strangled her with a rope and submerged her head in a bucket of water in the bathroom, ultimately causing her death.
Upon receiving the distressing news, Sabina’s father and family rushed to the house that night and found her lifeless body in the bathroom. With the assistance of neighbours, Abul Khayer was detained and handed over to the police.
Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Atikur Rahman, confirmed that the body had been recovered and sent to the morgue. He added that Abul Khayer is currently in custody and that authorities will take further action based on the investigation.
This horrifying case has shocked the community, highlighting the ongoing issues of domestic violence in the region. Neighbours and relatives expressed their grief and demanded swift justice for the victim.
