Six-Year-Old Allegedly Raped in Madaripur; Suspect Mob-Beaten and Arrested

A deeply distressing incident has emerged from Shibchar, Madaripur, where a six-year-old female student attending a local madrasa has allegedly been raped. The incident provoked a visceral reaction from the local populace, who detained the accused young man, administered a severe mob beating, and subsequently handed him over to the authorities. The victim’s distraught family has formally lodged a criminal complaint against the suspect under the rigorous Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The horrific act reportedly took place on Monday afternoon, 8 December, within the jurisdiction of the Shibchar Upazila. As news of the alleged sexual assault quickly permeated the community, it sparked widespread anger and an immediate, forceful response from local residents, culminating in the administration of mob justice.

Details gathered from local sources and the victim’s immediate family indicate that the child had been taken to her local madrasa at approximately 10:00 AM on the day of the incident. Alarm bells rang when she failed to return home by midday. Her family initiated a desperate search for the missing pupil. Tragically, she was discovered around 4:00 PM in a severely injured and critical condition near the residence of the accused individual.

Upon her rescue, the traumatised girl recounted the details of the attack to her parents. In a state of panic, the family swiftly transported her to the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. Following an initial assessment and the provision of emergency care, medical practitioners determined the extent of her injuries warranted specialised attention and immediately referred her to the Madaripur 250-Bed General Hospital. The child remains hospitalised, where she is receiving essential medical treatment.

Learning of the grave allegations, a large assembly of locals converged, managing to corner and seize the young male suspect. Driven by fury and indignation, the crowd commenced a violent assault, subjecting the accused to a brutal public beating. The escalating volatility of the situation necessitated rapid intervention, and officers from the Shibchar Police Station, supported by Datapara Highway Police, arrived on the scene promptly. They succeeded in extracting the assaulted suspect from the mob’s grasp and ensuring his admission to the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex for necessary treatment for the injuries he sustained.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Shibchar Police Station, Md. Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the legal actions to the media. He stated: “A case has been formally registered following a complaint from the victim’s family under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The young girl is currently admitted to hospital for better medical attention. The accused has been transferred to court having received initial treatment for his injuries.” The OC reiterated the police’s commitment to conducting a rapid and thorough investigation to bring the matter to legal conclusion.

This distressing event underscores persistent societal issues regarding child safety and has generated widespread calls for improved protection measures and a swift judicial process to deliver justice and impose an exemplary sentence upon the perpetrator.
