Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year 2025 in Doha on Tuesday, while Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati secured the women’s award for the third consecutive year, cementing her status as one of the finest players in world football.
Dembele, 28, played a pivotal role in PSG’s historic first Champions League triumph, helping his side crush Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. Over the course of the season, he scored 35 goals across all competitions, including 21 in Ligue 1, finishing as the league’s top scorer. The Frenchman also swept domestic competitions with PSG and reached the final of the Club World Cup, reinforcing his remarkable form that earned him the Ballon d’Or in September 2025.
Bonmati, 27, mirrored Dembele’s dominance on the women’s side. The Champions League Player of the Season guided Barcelona to a domestic treble and to the Champions League final, while also starring for Spain at Euro 2025, where they narrowly lost to England on penalties. Her performances throughout the tournament earned her the Player of the Tournament award, further highlighting her consistent excellence.
In the coaching categories, Sarina Wiegman won the Best Women’s Coach Award for the fifth time after leading England to retain their European Championship title, while Luis Enrique earned the Men’s Coach Award following PSG’s landmark Champions League victory.
The goalkeeper awards went to Hannah Hampton of England and Chelsea for her crucial penalty saves en route to Euro 2025 glory, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, now of Manchester City, for his contributions to PSG’s domestic treble.
FIFA’s goal awards also recognised spectacular individual strikes: Lizbeth Ovalle of Mexico won the Marta Award for the women’s best goal — a stunning scorpion kick for Tigres against Guadalajara in March. The Puskas Award for the men’s best goal went to Argentina’s Santiago Montiel for an overhead kick against Independiente Rivadavia in May.
