A large truck overturned on a main road in Dhaka’s Nikunja residential area on Thursday morning, causing severe traffic congestion that stretched across a significant portion of the city. The incident, which occurred around 8:53 am, obstructed one lane of Airport Road, with gridlock reportedly extending as far as Banani and creating delays along key commuter routes.
According to updates from the Gulshan Traffic Division, the truck had been fully loaded when it overturned in the outgoing lane of Nikunja-1. Initial reports warned commuters of disruptions and confirmed that traffic authorities were working to remove the vehicle promptly.
By 9:30 am, the Gulshan Traffic Division confirmed that the overturned truck had been successfully cleared from the road. Traffic police were deployed to restore normal flow and manage the residual congestion, which affected office-goers, school students, and other daily commuters.
Eyewitnesses reported that the aftermath of the accident caused heavy delays along Airport Road, stretching from Nikunja towards Banani, Kamal Ataturk Avenue, and further along the Matikata Flyover to Mirpur’s Kalshi area. Motorists faced long waiting times, and some were forced to take alternative routes to reach their destinations.
Traffic authorities emphasised the importance of cautious driving, particularly in residential and high-density areas, where heavy vehicles like trucks can create significant hazards if not properly secured. The truck’s load was carefully offloaded, and the vehicle was uprighted and moved to a safer location to prevent further accidents.
