Nationalist Student League Calls Emergency Meeting Amid Rajshahi Dispute

Dhaka, 21 December 2025: The Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP) has declared its chief Northern organiser, Sarjis Alam, “unwelcome” in Rajshahi, sparking fresh tensions within the party. The announcement was made on Friday evening (5 December) by Motaleb Hossain, former joint convener of the Rajshahi district committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and former member of the NCP’s district coordination committee, via a Facebook post.

In his post, Hossain explained that the decision was prompted by the central committee’s refusal to remove Saiful Islam from the party leadership. On 29 November, the NCP officially appointed Islam as district convener of Rajshahi, a move that has since been met with strong opposition from some party members, who have labelled him a “supporter of the ruling Awami League.”

Hossain further claimed that Islam’s appointment had been orchestrated by Rajshahi divisional organiser Imran Imon, which he described as a betrayal of party principles. “Due to the failure to remove Saiful Islam, we were compelled to take this course of action,” Hossain wrote.

In response to the ongoing unrest, the Nationalist Student League (NSL) has convened an urgent organisational meeting to address the situation. The meeting is scheduled for Sunday, 21 December, at 2:30 pm on the third floor of Bhashani Bhaban in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, according to a notice released on Saturday evening (20 December) by the NSL’s Office Secretary (with co-vice president rank) Md. Jahangir Alam.

The NSL’s president, Rakibul Islam Rakib, and general secretary, Nasir Uddin Nasir, have instructed all central committee leaders to attend promptly.
