Dubai Capitals Cruise Past Sharjah Behind Mustafizur

Dubai Capitals delivered a commanding performance in the International League T20, overpowering Sharjah Warriors by a comprehensive margin of 63 runs in a one-sided contest held on Friday, 19 December. The emphatic victory not only strengthened Dubai’s position in the tournament but also showcased the brilliance of Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who emerged as one of the standout performers of the match. The fixture carried an added layer of intrigue, as it featured a compelling head-to-head battle between two Bangladeshi fast bowlers—Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed. While both brought intensity and pride into the contest, it was Mustafizur’s experience, discipline, and tactical intelligence that ultimately stole the spotlight.

From the outset of the tournament, Mustafizur has demonstrated remarkable consistency and control with the ball. Making his International League T20 debut on 6 December against the Gulf Giants, the seasoned pacer wasted little time in making his presence felt. His trademark cutters, deceptive slower deliveries, and pinpoint accuracy have repeatedly unsettled opposition batters. Across the tournament so far, Mustafizur has been economical and incisive, with only one slightly expensive outing against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on 13 December. Aside from that solitary match, he has remained a dependable force in Dubai Capitals’ bowling attack.

Against Sharjah Warriors, Mustafizur once again proved his value. Bowling just two overs, he conceded a mere 13 runs while claiming two crucial wickets. His spell came at a vital phase of the innings, particularly during the powerplay, when Sharjah were attempting to build momentum. By maintaining a tight line and length at one end, Mustafizur effectively strangled the scoring rate and forced batters into errors. His disciplined approach disrupted Sharjah’s rhythm, preventing them from mounting any meaningful resistance and allowing Dubai to seize complete control of the match long before the chase began.

Mustafizur’s most impressive individual performance in the tournament thus far, however, came earlier against MI Emirates on 17 December. Although Dubai Capitals narrowly lost that encounter by seven runs, the Bangladeshi pacer stood out with figures of three wickets for 34 runs. Even in defeat, his effort drew widespread praise from analysts and fans, underlining his ability to perform under pressure.

After six matches, Mustafizur has collected 11 wickets at an economy rate of 8.19, conceding a total of 172 runs. These numbers have propelled him to third place on the tournament’s leading wicket-takers list. At the summit sits his Dubai teammate, Afghan spinner Waqar Salamkheil, who has taken 15 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 7.49. Khurram Tanvir occupies second place, also with 11 wickets from seven appearances.

Dubai Capitals’ dominant win over Sharjah Warriors was a collective effort, but Mustafizur Rahman’s contribution with the ball played a decisive role. His performance not only reaffirmed his status as one of the most effective bowlers in franchise cricket but also highlighted that his famed cutters remain just as lethal on the international T20 stage. Should he maintain this level of consistency, Mustafizur appears well-positioned to climb even higher in the race for the tournament’s top bowler honours.
