Kumar Sanu Defamation Case Sparks Ex-Wife’s Response

The longstanding discord between Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu and his former wife, Rita Bhattacharya, has escalated to the courtroom, as tensions over a high-profile defamation lawsuit come to the fore. The case centres on a claim filed by Sanu seeking compensation of ₹50 crore, which Rita has described as “unfortunate” and “baffling,” given her financial circumstances.

In a recent interview, Rita spoke candidly about her side of the dispute. She alleged that during her pregnancy, Sanu subjected her to severe mistreatment, including withholding basic necessities such as food. She expressed disbelief at the sum demanded, stating: “I cannot understand how he thought I have access to such an amount. It is truly astonishing. Does he forget that he is filing this case against the mother of his three children?”

Rita further recounted the difficulties she endured during her pregnancy, asserting that Sanu’s alleged misconduct and the public revelation of his extramarital affairs caused her immense emotional distress. “I was so young at the time that it felt like the ground had disappeared beneath me. I was confined to the kitchen and denied even minimal access to medical care or nutrition for the child,” she said.
