Rashid, Rew Seal Warriorz Last-Ball Triumph

In an edge-of-the-seat thriller that went down to the very final delivery, the Sharjah Warriorz kept their playoff aspirations alive with a dramatic four-wicket victory over the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. England spinner Adil Rashid was the architect of the win, producing a clinical 3-18 to curtail the Knight Riders’ late-inning rally, before striking the winning run alongside an imperious James Rew, whose unbeaten 42 off 29 balls anchored the chase.

Despite the victory, the Warriorz remain at the bottom of the table. Yet, the two points earned have kept their slim hopes of finishing in the top four firmly intact.

The chase began on shaky footing as early strikes from Ajay Kumar and Jason Holder reduced Sharjah to 11 for 2. Tom Kohler-Cadmore (30) and Sikandar Raza (28) steadied the innings, carefully negotiating Sunil Narine’s disciplined spin, which yielded 1 for 14 in four overs. Momentum, however, swung decisively through Rew, who found boundaries at crucial junctures, keeping the required rate manageable.

The tension reached its peak in the penultimate over when Jason Holder conceded just one run but claimed a wicket, leaving the Warriorz needing 12 runs off the final six balls. The last over, bowled by Andre Russell, was fraught with drama, including a wide and a costly front-foot no-ball. With scores level, Rashid drove a low full toss toward cover. A slight misfield allowed him and Rew to scramble the winning run, leaving Russell and the Knight Riders lamenting their lapse under pressure.

Earlier, the Knight Riders had opted to bat but suffered a disastrous start, collapsing to 10 for 4 inside the first four overs. Taskin Ahmed and Wasim Akram exploited the new ball expertly, dismissing Phil Salt, Alex Hales, Brandon McMullen, and Liam Livingstone in quick succession. A stabilising partnership between Sherfane Rutherford (44 off 36) and Alishan Sharafu (19) resurrected the innings temporarily. Despite a late assault from Andre Russell (18) and Holder (14), Rashid’s final over swung the contest sharply in Sharjah’s favour.

This last-ball spectacle showcased Rashid’s mastery with both bat and ball and Rew’s composure under pressure, keeping Sharjah’s playoff hopes alive in a tournament where every point counts.
