The arrangement is said to be more than a mere investment. Alves plans to register himself as a player and represent the club for an initial six-month period. After that, he intends to retire from professional football altogether and purchase the remaining 50 per cent of the club, assuming full ownership and a long-term role in its development.

The club already features a small Brazilian contingent, including former Palmeiras winger Washington, a detail that may ease Alves’ transition into both the dressing room and the boardroom. His experience, leadership and global profile could prove invaluable for a modest side seeking growth, visibility and ambition beyond the lower tiers of Portuguese football.

Alves last appeared in a competitive match in January 2023 for Mexican outfit Pumas UNAM. Following his arrest, the club terminated his contract with immediate effect, bringing an abrupt end to what had been expected to be the final chapter of his playing career. Instead, Alves now stands on the brink of a curious new phase—part comeback, part reinvention—blending the roles of footballer, mentor and owner.
