Identification Confirmed of Woman Found Dead in DMCH

The identity of the young woman whose body was found abandoned at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has been confirmed. On Tuesday afternoon, 23 December, her relatives recognised the deceased during a visit to the DMCH morgue.

The woman has been identified as Rasheda Akter, aged 22, daughter of the late Abu Bakkar Siddique from Pukhuria village in Magura Sadar Upazila. At the time of her death, she was residing in the Ansar Camp area of Mirpur Section 1, Dhaka.

After completing her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Alokdia Amresh Bosu Degree College in Magura, Rasheda moved to Dhaka on 7 December to live with her elder sister. She took up employment at a local garment factory and was simultaneously preparing for university admission.

The identification of Rasheda’s body has been officially confirmed by Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam of Mirpur Police Station. He stated, “Upon receiving the news, we visited DMCH on Tuesday night and, in the presence of Rasheda’s relatives, prepared the official post-mortem record. Her autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, which will determine the exact cause of death.”

SI Islam added that following complaints from Rasheda’s family, police conducted an inspection of the relevant areas. CCTV footage revealed that on 20 December, Rasheda was seen walking with a young man, after which her movements could not be traced. Further investigation is ongoing.

Rasheda’s elder sister, Khaleda Akter, along with her brother-in-law, Md. Mamun, alleged that a neighbour from their village, Noyon Islam, had frequently harassed Rasheda and may have deliberately killed her, leaving the body at the hospital and fleeing. According to her sister, Rasheda stayed at home all day on Saturday, 21 December, before leaving the house around 8 pm and never returning. Villagers reported that Noyon Islam arrived in Dhaka that evening and was seen speaking to Rasheda outside her residence.

The woman was reportedly brought to DMCH in a critical state on the night of Monday, 22 December, by a young man who left the hospital immediately after.
