Rangpur Riders Move to Avoid BPL Salary Disputes with Advance Pay

In a move that has been widely welcomed across the Bangladesh cricketing community, former champions Rangpur Riders have paid 50 per cent of their players’ match fees even before the start of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The gesture has not only lifted morale within the camp but has also set a strong professional benchmark for franchise management ahead of the tournament.

The payment was made on Tuesday during the team’s training session at the Bashundhara Sports City, where senior national players such as Nurul Hasan Sohan and Litton Das, along with overseas recruits, received half of their contracted remuneration from the franchise authorities. The early disbursement has been viewed as a reassuring signal of financial transparency and organisational discipline.

Under official BPL regulations, franchises are required to pay players’ fees in three instalments. Ordinarily, 25 per cent is paid before the tournament begins, a further 50 per cent during the competition, and the remaining 25 per cent within one month of the tournament’s conclusion. Rangpur Riders, however, have gone beyond the minimum requirement by paying 50 per cent upfront, effectively doubling the mandated first instalment.

BPL Player Payment Structure :

Historically, the BPL has often been marred by disputes over delayed payments, which have at times overshadowed on-field performances. In the previous edition, players of Durbar Rajshahi famously boycotted training sessions after failing to receive their dues, drawing criticism from fans and administrators alike. Against that backdrop, Rangpur Riders’ proactive approach has been praised as both timely and commendable.

Rangpur have, in fact, earned a reputation over successive seasons for ensuring player welfare, timely payments, and professional facilities. This consistency has helped the franchise maintain credibility among both domestic and international cricketers. Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah expressed his satisfaction with the management, saying, “The Rangpur Riders’ management is extremely professional. Everything is being handled properly—thanks be to God.”

Such confidence off the field is expected to translate into stronger performances on it, as players are free to focus entirely on preparation and execution without financial concerns.

The twelfth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League is set to commence on 26 December. The opening fixture in Sylhet will see Sylhet Strikers take on Rajshahi Warriors, followed by an evening clash between Noakhali Express and Chattogram Challengers.
