After a prolonged exile of seventeen years, BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is set to return to Bangladesh, marking a historic moment in the nation’s political landscape. The capital, Dhaka, has been placed under tight security measures, while the party is preparing for what it anticipates could be a gathering of up to five million supporters.
According to party sources, Tarique Rahman, accompanied by his family, will depart from London Heathrow Airport this evening at 6:15 PM BST aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Dhaka. The aircraft will transit via Sylhet and is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around midday tomorrow.

Upon arrival, members of BNP’s standing committee will formally welcome Tarique Rahman. From the airport, he will travel by road to the 300 Feet area in Bashundhara, East Dhaka, where supporters will line both sides of the route to greet him. A specially constructed stage in this area will host his address to the assembled crowd, with Tarique Rahman being the sole speaker.
Following the rally, he is scheduled to visit Evercare Hospital to meet his ailing mother and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, before proceeding to the family residence, Firoza, in Gulshan.
BNP senior joint secretary-general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed that nearly five million supporters are expected in Dhaka. To manage the massive crowd and ensure Tarique Rahman’s security, multiple coordination meetings have been held with law enforcement authorities.

Additionally, nearly 1,000 loudspeakers have been installed across key locations including the airport, Bashundhara, Kanchan Bridge, Abdullahpur, Banani, and Mohakhali. Thousands of billboards and ceremonial arches have also been erected to mark the occasion.
In preparation for Tarique Rahman’s arrival, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has imposed strict restrictions from 6 PM today until 6 PM tomorrow, allowing entry only to passengers.
To facilitate the arrival of party supporters, BNP has chartered ten special trains from districts including Cox’s Bazar, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Tangail, Bhairab, Panchagarh, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Jessore. In addition, supporters are arriving in Dhaka by bus and launch from various parts of the country.
