One Killed After Bomb Thrown from Flyover in New Eskaton

A shocking incident in central Dhaka has left one young man dead after an explosive device was thrown from a flyover in the New Eskaton area on Wednesday evening. Police confirmed that the explosion occurred at approximately 7:45 pm, triggering panic among residents and passers-by in what is typically a busy and populated part of the capital.

According to law enforcement officials, the blast took place beneath the New Eskaton flyover, directly in front of the gate of the Muktijoddha Kendriya Command Council building. The area is known for regular pedestrian movement, roadside tea stalls and evening gatherings, making the incident particularly alarming for local residents.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division, Masud Alam, provided details of the incident while speaking to the media. He stated that the victim sustained critical injuries immediately following the explosion and succumbed to them shortly afterwards at the scene. Emergency services were alerted promptly, but there was no opportunity to transport the injured man to hospital.

Police later identified the deceased as Siam, a young man who, according to preliminary information, had come to the area to drink tea. Investigators believe that an explosive device was deliberately thrown from the flyover above, striking close to him before detonating. The sudden nature of the incident left witnesses stunned, with many fleeing the area in fear.

Following the explosion, police cordoned off the surrounding streets and temporarily restricted traffic to ensure public safety. Bomb disposal units and forensic experts were deployed to examine the scene, collect evidence and determine the type of explosive used. Law enforcement agencies have also begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings and traffic cameras in an effort to identify those responsible.
