In a tragic turn of events, Khairuzzaman Alam Munshi, aged 45, a prominent leader of the Farmers’ Party (Krishak Dal) from Lohagara Upazila, Narail District, passed away while travelling to Dhaka to attend a reception for Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on his long-awaited return to the country.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 24 December, at Bhangha Golchattar in Faridpur. Reports indicate that Khairuzzaman suffered a sudden heart attack while he was part of the convoy of vehicles carrying party leaders and supporters from various districts. Despite immediate efforts by fellow activists to provide assistance, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bhangha Upazila Health Complex by the attending medical staff.

Khairuzzaman Alam Munshi was the son of Cherak Ali Munshi from Dighalia village, Lohagara Upazila, Narail District. He had been actively involved in local politics and was widely respected among party workers for his leadership and dedication to agricultural and rural development issues.

According to sources within the Bhangha Upazila BNP, the convoy had assembled at the Bhangha bus stand to proceed towards Dhaka, where a grand reception was organised to honour Tarique Rahman’s return after 17 years abroad. The sudden demise of Khairuzzaman sent shockwaves through the assembled leaders and supporters, casting a somber shadow over the occasion. Party members and affiliates rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news, expressing their grief and condolences to the bereaved family.
