Two dead in tuk-tuk–motorbike collision in Dumki, Patuakhali

A tragic road accident occurred in Dumki, Patuakhali on Friday morning when a motorbike collided head-on with a goods-carrying three-wheeler, resulting in the deaths of two passengers, including a child, and injuries to two others.

The incident took place around 9:30 am on the Dumki-Bauphal Road near the Rajakhali Shrirampur Bridge. Eyewitnesses reported that a high-speed auto-rickshaw transporting cargo collided with a fast-moving motorbike. The impact caused the motorbike to overturn, leaving all four occupants seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as six-year-old Rabiul, a resident of Jhilna in neighbouring Bauphal Upazila, and Ibrahim, aged 55, from Borhi Kolta village. The injured passengers, Mohammad Suman Sardar (25) and Abdul Kader (50), also hail from the same areas. They were initially treated at the local Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for further treatment.

Authorities recovered the bodies of Rabiul and Ibrahim and are in the process of transporting them to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue. The Dumki Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Selim Uddin, confirmed that a formal inquest and medico-legal procedures are underway, and a case is being filed regarding the incident.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the rickshaw was moving at high speed on the Link Road when it struck the oncoming motorbike. The collision’s force caused the motorbike to flip, leaving both the child and the adult critically injured, who later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The two other injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention, with their conditions reported as stable.
