Tasnim Jara Resigns from NCP, Opts for Independent Political Path

Tasnim Jara, Senior Joint Secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has formally stepped down from her position, signalling a notable shift in her political journey. The resignation was confirmed by a fellow joint secretary of the party and has since generated considerable discussion within political and civic circles.

Following her decision, Jara shared a farewell message in the party’s internal group, expressing gratitude for her time within the organisation. “Dear comrades, I have resigned from the party. Over the past year and a half, I have learned a great deal from all of you, for which I remain sincerely thankful. I wish you every success going forward,” she wrote.

Soon after, Jara addressed residents of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda through a detailed post on social media. Describing herself as a “daughter of the area”, she reflected on her roots in Khilgaon, where she was born and raised. She explained that her original ambition had been to enter Parliament through a recognised political party in order to serve both her constituency and the country. However, she noted that prevailing political realities had prompted her to reconsider that path.

According to Jara, she has now decided not to contest the forthcoming parliamentary election under the banner of any political party or alliance. Instead, she will stand as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-9 constituency. Reiterating her commitment to political reform, she stated that her promise to work for the people and to promote a new political culture remains unchanged. “Whatever the circumstances, I am determined to honour that pledge,” she affirmed.

Jara also acknowledged the structural challenges of contesting an election without party affiliation. Unlike party-backed candidates, she will not have access to local party offices, an organised grassroots workforce, or institutional support when dealing with administrative or security-related concerns. In light of this, she emphasised that her campaign would rely entirely on public trust and participation. Appealing directly to voters, she said that only their goodwill and support could enable her to serve them effectively.

Legal Requirements and Public Support :

Under electoral regulations, an independent candidate must submit endorsement signatures from 4,693 registered voters of the Dhaka-9 constituency. Jara announced that the signature collection process would commence immediately, acknowledging that gathering such a large number within a limited timeframe would be extremely challenging without widespread voluntary assistance.

Refund of Campaign Donations :

In a move aimed at maintaining transparency and accountability, Jara also announced that all funds collected during earlier campaign fundraising—when she was an NCP-backed candidate—would be refunded. Donors who contributed via mobile financial services have been requested to complete a verification form, after which refunds will be processed. Contributors who donated through bank transfers will be informed separately about the reimbursement procedure.
