Saudi Forces Intensify Campaign in Yemen South

The Saudi Arabia-led coalition has launched a large-scale military operation in Yemen, concentrating on the southern regions, particularly the strategic port city of Mukalla in Hadhramaut Governorate and its surrounding areas. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), civilians in these areas have been urged to evacuate immediately to ensure their safety.

The coalition stated that the operation aims primarily to curb the military activities of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a separatist group in southern Yemen, and to restore security for the civilian population. Citizens have been warned to exercise extreme caution to protect their lives and property, with the advisory remaining in effect until further notice.

Since 2015, Saudi-led forces have been engaged in military operations against Houthi rebels across Yemen. However, by December 2025, the dynamics in southern Yemen have shifted significantly. The United Arab Emirates-backed STC has seized control over vast territories, including the strategic city of Aden, displacing Saudi-supported government forces. Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Rashad Al-Alimi, has called upon the Saudi-led coalition for urgent intervention. He accused STC armed forces of committing human rights violations and oppressing civilians in Hadhramaut, warning of an escalating humanitarian crisis.
