Dhaka Youth Fatally Stabbed, Police Launch Investigation

A 24-year-old man, Mohammad Shipon, was fatally attacked in the Jhauchhar area of Hazaribagh, Dhaka, in a shocking incident that has left the local community in shock. The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 31 December, when Shipon was found severely injured on the street.

According to Sub-Inspector Suman Chandra Sheikh of Hazaribagh Police Station, the force received an emergency call via Triple Nine at approximately 2:45 a.m., reporting that a young man was lying in a pool of blood in the alley near Siam School. Police officers rushed to the scene and immediately transported the injured man to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Despite the doctors’ urgent efforts, Shipon was declared dead on arrival.

The officer further explained that the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds to his head and other parts of his body. “At present, it is unclear who carried out this brutal act. Further investigations are underway, and the truth will emerge in due course,” SI Sheikh added. The body has been sent to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Shipon hailed from a village in Comilla district but had been residing in the city. He lived in a house located opposite the Bara Mosque in Hazaribagh. His father’s name is Shah Alam. Locals have expressed deep sorrow and anxiety following the incident, emphasising concerns over public safety in the area.

The Hazaribagh Police have assured residents that a thorough investigation is underway and that authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to identify the perpetrator(s). Meanwhile, community members have called for increased patrolling and security measures in the neighbourhood to prevent similar incidents in the future.
