Four Police Officers Injured in Shreepur as Drug Traffickers Launch Armed Attack

Four police officers were injured in Shreepur, Gazipur, during a drug raid when local traffickers launched a violent attack. The assailants reportedly vandalised two police vehicles and seized narcotics before fleeing. Following the incident, the police apprehended ten individuals, including two women, in connection with the attack.

Shreepur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, confirmed the details on Thursday, 1 January. He stated that two separate cases have been filed: one concerning drug offences, and another pertaining to assault on law enforcement and obstruction of official duties.

According to police reports, the attack occurred on Wednesday, 31 December, at around 10 pm in the area north of Piar Ali College in Shreepur municipality. The raid was conducted following a tip-off regarding drug dealings at the residence of a known trafficker, Jahangir Hossain. During the operation, three individuals—Laki Akter, Jahangir Hossain, and Md. Rajib—were apprehended along with a quantity of yaba tablets.

However, news of the arrests quickly spread, prompting local traffickers and their associates to launch a coordinated assault on the police team. Witnesses reported that the assailants wielded homemade weapons, iron rods, and machetes, and hurled bricks and stones at officers. In the ensuing clash, four officers were injured, including Sub-Inspector (SI) Arup Kumar Biswas, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Masud, Constable Azizul, and Constable Mosharaf. Constable Mosharaf suffered stab wounds during the confrontation and all injured officers were treated at Shreepur Upazila Health Complex.

The police swiftly regained control of the situation and carried out arrests, targeting those allegedly involved in both the drug trade and the assault.
