Khagrachhari, Bangladesh: In a significant political development, more than 300 members of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in Khagrachhari have officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) under the leadership of former NCP district organisational secretary, Biplob Tripura. The formal induction ceremony took place on Monday, 5 January 2026, at the Khagrachhari BNP district office.
Leadership Statements
Speaking at the event, Biplob Tripura stated, “The NCP has formed an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections. We cannot accept this decision. For this reason, we have voluntarily joined the BNP. Inspired by the ideals of the late Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, we have made a conscious choice to align ourselves with the BNP.”
Tripura emphasised that the move was both voluntary and deliberate, reflecting the group’s commitment to democratic principles and local political engagement. He expressed confidence that their entry into the BNP would strengthen the party’s position in the upcoming elections, particularly in the strategically significant Khagrachhari constituency.
BNP Welcomes New Members
District BNP President Wadud Bhuiya formally welcomed the incoming members, presenting them with flowers as a gesture of honour. Addressing the gathering, he remarked, “You have joined the BNP of your own free will, and for that, we extend our sincere gratitude. I urge everyone to work together in unity as we prepare for the forthcoming parliamentary elections.”

The induction ceremony was chaired by Khagrachhari BNP Joint Secretary Animesh Chakma Rinku. Other notable attendees included District BNP Vice-President Prabin Chandra Chakma, General Secretary M.N. Absar, and leaders and activists from various BNP-affiliated and allied organisations.

The integration of local leaders is seen as a strategic boost ahead of the national elections, where local support can influence overall constituency outcomes. Analysts believe that this development reflects broader trends of party realignments and shifting allegiances within the region.
With these new members on board, BNP is expected to consolidate its local organisational structure and strengthen its outreach efforts in the lead-up to the parliamentary polls.
