The new United States Ambassador is arriving in Dhaka ahead of the elections

Reports suggest that the discussions focused on logistical arrangements for Ambassador Christensen’s visit as well as outlining the initial priorities of the embassy under his leadership.

Ambassador Christensen is a senior officer in the US Foreign Service with extensive experience in Bangladesh. Between 2019 and 2021, he served as the Political and Economic Counsellor at the US Embassy in Dhaka. His previous tenure afforded him close working relationships with the leaders of major political parties, positioning him uniquely to navigate the country’s complex political landscape effectively. Analysts suggest that his familiarity with local political dynamics will enable him to undertake diplomatic initiatives efficiently and engage meaningfully with stakeholders across the board.
