Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a coordinated operation on Friday night across Manikganj and Gazipur districts, resulting in the arrest of three individuals in connection with the murder of Bangladesh Sheccha Shebok League leader Azizur Rahman. The detainees include Zinat, identified as the principal shooter; Bilal, the alleged mastermind; and a third accomplice.
A senior DMP official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the killing was premeditated. He stated, “We have apprehended the three main suspects directly involved in the killing of Musabbir. Interrogations are ongoing, and we are collecting crucial information related to the case.”
Azizur Rahman, 44, previously served as the General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Sheccha Shebok League. He had faced various legal challenges in recent years, resulting in extended periods of incarceration. Following the change of government on 5 August 2024, he had returned to active political engagement.
The murder occurred at around 10:00 pm on Wednesday in West Tejturi Bazar, under the jurisdiction of Tejgaon Police Station in Dhaka. According to local sources, unidentified gunmen ambushed Azizur, leaving him critically injured. Despite being rushed to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the Sheccha Shebok League community and his supporters. His funeral prayer was held on Thursday at noon in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
Azizur’s widow, Suraiya Akter, filed a murder case at Tejgaon Police Station, naming four to five unidentified individuals as suspects.
