Out-Of-Control Bus Crashes Into Mosque In Sirajganj: 2 Injured

A dramatic road accident occurred on Saturday, 10 January, in Kazipur, Sirajganj, when a passenger bus named ‘Priyo Enterprise’ lost control and crashed through the wall of a local mosque. The incident left two men seriously injured, who were immediately admitted to hospital.

The accident took place around midday on the Sirajganj-Kazipur regional highway, near the Simantabazar area. According to local police and eyewitnesses, the bus was heading towards Sirajganj city when it attempted to overtake a truck. During the manoeuvre, it collided with a battery-powered van, subsequently smashing through the mosque’s boundary wall before coming to a halt inside the premises.

The injured individuals have been identified as Abdul Mannan, a bus driver from Mirpur Mohalla, Sirajganj municipality, and Farid Sheikh, a van driver from Vewamara village in Kazipur. Both were initially taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.

Kazipur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Enayetur Rahman, confirmed the incident, stating that swift action by locals helped to rescue the victims promptly. He added that necessary legal and administrative measures would be taken against those responsible, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Details of the Injured:

Name Age/Origin Occupation Hospital
Abdul Mannan Mirpur Mohalla, Sirajganj Bus Driver Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital
Farid Sheikh Vewamara Village, Kazipur Van Driver Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital

Eyewitness accounts suggest that excessive speed and a risky overtaking manoeuvre contributed to the crash. The accident has sparked concern among local residents regarding road safety in the area, particularly near mosques, schools, and crowded marketplaces. The mosque sustained structural damage, though fortunately no worshippers were inside at the time.

Authorities have urged all drivers to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and maintain safe speeds, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity. The Kazipur police and local road safety officials are reportedly reviewing the incident to implement preventive measures and ensure similar accidents are avoided in the future.

This incident underscores the critical importance of road safety awareness and the dangers posed by negligent driving in densely populated areas.
