“BPL President directs Director Nazmul to show cause.”

Dhaka, 11 January 2026 – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a show-cause notice to director M Nazmul Islam over his controversial remarks regarding former national captain Tamim Iqbal. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul instructed Nazmul to provide an explanation, commonly referred to as a ‘rejoinder’, for his statements. Bulbul confirmed that the directive functions similarly to a formal show-cause notice.

The announcement came during an official event on Saturday evening at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Bulbul was attending the jersey and trophy unveiling ceremony for the GNC School Cricket Tournament, organised by the BCB’s Regional Cricket Centre. Speaking to the media, he elaborated on the matter and emphasised the need for respect and discretion in public commentary about national players.

“He [Nazmul] posted this on his personal Facebook account. We have asked him to submit a rejoinder. As a former captain of the Bangladesh national team, Tamim’s contributions deserve thoughtful consideration and respect before anyone writes about him,” Bulbul said.

When asked whether the instruction to submit a rejoinder could be equated to a show-cause notice, Bulbul replied in the affirmative. He further indicated that the matter would be discussed openly at the forthcoming BCB board meeting, expected on 24 January.

“He himself is a director. We have a board meeting coming up, and we will discuss the matter in detail then,” Bulbul added.

The BCB is already under significant pressure over its decision not to participate in the upcoming World Cup. In this context, questions were raised about whether directors’ unchecked remarks could create additional controversies for the board. Bulbul chose to refrain from comment, responding simply: “No comments.”

The episode highlights the BCB’s ongoing challenge in balancing internal governance with public accountability, particularly regarding communications from board members in the age of social media.
