Police in Patuakhali’s Kalapara upazila have recovered the body of a man three days after he went missing, finding him buried on a riverbank. The deceased has been identified as Ferdous Munshi, 38, a resident of Madhukhali village in Mithaganj Union and son of Rahman Munshi.
The body was discovered on Sunday, 11 January, around 1:00 pm, on the banks of the Sapuria Canal in Madhukhali village. Local residents noticed freshly disturbed soil on the riverbank that morning, which raised their suspicions. Upon closer inspection, they uncovered Ferdous Munshi’s body, partially buried, and immediately alerted the authorities.
According to police and local sources, Ferdous left his home on Thursday night at approximately 9:00 pm after attending to his ailing father. He had not been seen since, despite extensive searches by family members and neighbours across surrounding areas.
Police reports indicate that Ferdous’s body bore clear signs of foul play. His neck was tied with a nylon rope, suggesting strangulation, and his left ring finger had been severed. At the time of discovery, he was wearing a T-shirt and shorts.
Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent of Police Sameer Sarkar of the Kalapara Circle stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest that Ferdous Munshi was deliberately killed, likely by strangulation with a nylon rope. Our teams are working relentlessly to identify and apprehend those responsible.” He added that the body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination and that appropriate legal action will follow.
Local residents described Ferdous as a calm and well-respected individual, noting that his sudden disappearance and the circumstances of his death have caused shock and concern in the community. Police have assured that they are treating the case with utmost priority and are following all leads to ensure swift justice.
